Report: SEAL team commander dies in suspected suicide

By Jonathan Easley - 12/24/12 10:20 AM ET

U.S. Navy SEAL commander Job Price died Sunday in Afghanistan, in what the Department of Defense has classified as a “non-combat fatality.”

"This incident is currently under investigation," the DOD said in a statement Sunday.

CNN and NBC News quoted an anonymous U.S. military official as saying the death was being investigated as a suspected suicide.

Price, 42, from Pottstown, Pa., was the commanding officer of SEAL Team Four, in charge of a Navy Special Warfare unit based in Virginia Beach, Va.

According to a Reuters report, Price failed to show up for an event with colleagues on Saturday, and was later found dead in his room.

Price leaves behind a wife and a daughter.

This report was originally published at 8:32 a.m. and last updated at 9:20 a.m.
