Obama to speak to Fort Bragg troops about end of Iraq war
President Obama’s Wednesday speech at Fort Bragg, N.C., will focus on the significance of ending the Iraq war, the White House announced Saturday.
“As we definitively end America’s war in Iraq this month, the president wanted to speak directly to the troops at Fort Bragg and to members of the Armed Forces and their families everywhere,” the White House said in a statement.
The Fort Bragg trip will come just days before the final U.S. troop leaves Iraq. One of Obama’s 2008 campaign pledges was to bring the Iraq war to an end.
“Like many other military installations across this nation, during the war in Iraq, service members from Ft. Bragg – and their families – have provided remarkable service to our country through their deployments to Iraq,” the White House said.
