White House condemns 'senseless' attacks on churches in Nigeria

By Meghashyam Mali - 12/25/11 04:21 PM ET

The White House condemned the “tragic loss of life” after bombs struck three churches on Christmas morning in Nigeria, killing more than a dozen people.

Terrorist group Boko Haram, which seeks to impose Islamic law in the country, claimed responsibility for the bombings.

"We condemn this senseless violence and tragic loss of life on Christmas Day," said a statement from the White House. "We offer our sincere condolences to the Nigerian people and especially those who lost family and loved ones."

The White House said it was in contact with Nigerian authorities “about what initially appear to be terrorist acts and pledge to assist them in bringing those responsible to justice.”
