Ten-term GOP congressman ousted after Md. redistricting

By Jeremy Herb - 11/06/12 11:15 PM ET

Ten-term Rep. Roscoe Bartlett (R-Md.) was done in by Maryland’s redistricting on Tuesday, losing his seat to Democratic challenger John Delaney.

The Associated Press called the race with Delaney leading Bartlett 59-38, with 31 percent of precincts reporting.

Delaney’s win gives the Democrats a pickup in Maryland.

Bartlett, the chairman of the House Armed Services Airland subcommittee, survived a contested Republican primary but could not overcome the Democratic bent of his congressional district after the lines were redrawn.

Democrats in the Maryland statehouse targeted Bartlett during the redistricting process, adding Democratic turf to his western Maryland district.
