Boeing, Lockheed Martin submit final proposals for missile defense contract
Boeing and Lockheed Martin submitted their final proposals this week to the U.S. Missile Defense Agency for a 7-year missile defense contract that’s estimated at $600 million annually.
The contract is to develop and sustain the Ground-Based Midcourse Defense (GMD) system. Boeing, which is teaming up with Northrop Grumman for its bid, has been the prime contractor for GMD. Lockheed has partnered with Raytheon for its proposal.
The program sparked a contentious debate earlier this year in the House Armed Services Committee, when House Republicans wanted to add $100 million to its $1.2 billion budget for 2012.
