Ahmadinejad: Iran has ‘right’ to enrich uranium

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad says that Iran has “a right” to enrich 20 percent uranium, throwing cold water on ongoing negotiations between Tehran and six world powers over Iran’s nuclear program.

Ahmadinejad said Wednesday that Iran’s 20 percent enriched uranium has “nothing to do with producing a bomb” in an interview from Tehran with France 24.

Obama administration has some (classified) concerns with intelligence bill

The Obama administration laid out its concerns Wednesday afternoon with the House’s intelligence authorization bill.

But you’d better have security clearance if you want to find out exactly what those concerns are.

The Obama administration’s statement of administration policy for the intelligence authorization bill, which says the White House does not oppose the overall legislation, expresses the fact that the administration has problems with the bill.

But it's tough to figure out what the problems are, because they are classified.

General: US should freeze Afghan troop withdrawals after summer drawdown

Key US general soothes Russian concerns on missile defense, nuclear weapons

A top U.S. general on Wednesday sought to sooth Russia's concerns over the U.S. nuclear stockpile and a new American missile shield being set up in Eastern Europe.

"We do not view the Russians ... as our enemies," Gen. Bob Kehler, head of Strategic Command, said during a speech at the Council of Foreign Relations in Washington.

Pentagon still pressing Congress not to change defense budget

The Pentagon is continuing its push for Congress not to make big changes to the Pentagon’s budget this year, even if the pleas mostly fall flat on Capitol Hill.

Deputy Defense Secretary Ashton Carter was the latest Pentagon official to urge Congress to lay off the budget, warning that making changes was a zero-sum game” as the Pentagon prepares for a cut of $487 billion over the next decade.

“Every dollar the U.S. spends on old and unnecessary programs is a dollar we lose from new and necessary strategic investments,” Carter said at a speech at the American Enterprise Institute Wednesday. “When something is added to the budget that’s not needed, we are forced to take out something that matters.”
