Trump: Obama will start war with Iran for political gain

Reality television star and prominent Mitt Romney surrogate Donald Trump said Tuesday that he believes President Obama would begin a war with Iran because it would help him politically.

"I happen to think that the President is going to start a war with Iran," Trump said on the Laura Ingraham show. "I think it will be a short-term popular thing to do, and I think he’s going to do that for political reasons, if you want to know the truth. I don’t know if anyone says this openly, but I think he’s going to start a war with Iran."

Trump said a war with Iran would help Obama politically much in the same way the war with Iraq provided former President George W. Bush a temporary wartime boost in the polls.

Sen. Begich looks to block Air Force restructuring until after congressional review

Sen. Mark Begich (D-Alaska) on Monday asked Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman Carl Levin (D-Mich.) and ranking member John McCain (R-Ariz.) to consider a prohibition on using any funds from the 2013 defense authorization bill from being used for Air Force restructuring decisions until Congress and the Government Accountability Office (GAO) review the decisions.

Begich's April 2 letter reflects his latest attempt to stop a plan to move his state's F-16 Squadron Eielson Air Force base to the Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson — also in Alaska.

Kyl continues offensive against Obama on missile defense

Senate Minority Whip Jon Kyl (R-Ariz.) continued a Republican offensive against President Obama on missile defense for his comments last week to Russian President Dmitry Medvedev where Obama asked for “space” and “flexibility” until after the election.

Writing an op-ed in The Wall Street Journal, Kyl suggested that Obama was looking to compromise U.S. missile defense capabilities in Europe to gain another round of arms reductions with Russia.
