Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Thursday an extension of Somalia's current transitional government would not be tolerated, and threatened sanctions on anyone who seeks to undermine the looming political change.
"The International community has been clear that we do not support another extension. It is time to move forward to a more stable and unified era for the Somali people," Clinton said at a press conference in London Thursday.

The U.S. ambassador to Israel said Thursday there is “total cooperation” between the United States and Israel on Iran, as he sought to downplay public divisions that have emerged in recent weeks between the two countries. Speaking to the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations in Jerusalem, Ambassador Dan Shapiro said reports of distrust between Israel and the United States are “pure speculation, and much of it is wrong,” according to JTA.
“I cannot think of any issue on which we are better coordinated than on the issue of Iran,” Shapiro said.

Two U.S. soldiers were killed in Afghanistan Thursday when a man wearing an Afghan uniform “turned his weapon” on the soldiers. A U.S. official confirmed that the two International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) soldiers
killed Thursday were American, as widespread protests continued in Afghanistan
for the third consecutive day after Qurans were burned at a U.S. air base
Tuesday.

Protests over the burning of Qurans at a U.S. air base in
Afghanistan have left seven dead, according to The Associated Press, as Afghan
President Hamid Karzai called for calm Wednesday. A NATO official confirmed the Afghan casualties at a
Wednesday briefing and vowed a quick investigation to find out why the Qurans
and other Islamic religious materials wound up in the burn pit at Bagram Air
Base.
