The release of the Obama administration’s 2013 budget Monday will set off a flurry of activity on the defense budget in Congress this week, as

The Pentagon on Thursday announced it was easing restrictions so women could serve closer to the front lines. Defense officials said 14,000 jobs would now be open to
women as a result of the change. They would be able to serve formally in combat
battalions under specialties already available to women, and in positions that
require “co-location” with combat units.
Women are still banned from serving in combat as infantry,
armor or special-operations forces.
