A National Guard association is protesting the personnel
cuts that are coming to the Air Force National Guard as part of the Pentagon’s
2013 budget, which implements cuts of $487 billion over the next 10 years.
Following a Friday briefing by top Air Force officials on the budget, which will be released in full on Feb. 13, the National Guard
Association of the United States (NGAUS) issued a statement complaining that the
Guard would take the bulk of the cuts.

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said Friday
that Iran will strike back if the United States and other countries attack it with
military strikes or economic sanctions. Khamenei said that Iran had its own tools to counter
threats, which it would use “if necessary,” and that a war with Iran would harm
the United States “10 times more.”

Four Virginia House members say that Pentagon budget cuts
should stop the proposed move of a Naval aircraft carrier to Florida.
The group wrote a letter to Defense Secretary Leon Panetta urging
him to reconsider the decision to move a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier from
Norfolk, Va., to Mayport, Fla.

Rep. Judy Chu (D-Calif.) has seen the devastating impact of military hazing in her family, and now she’s calling for major changes in the
way the military addresses it.
Chu, whose nephew Lance Cpl. Harry Lew committed suicide in
Afghanistan last year after he was attacked by fellow Marines, called for a
congressional hearing on military hazing Thursday, after one of Marines charged
in her nephew’s case was not discharged from the military.
Lance Cpl. Jacob Jacoby, one of three Marines charged in the
case, was sentenced Monday to a 30-days in jail and a reduction in rank.
