The energy debate has frustrated environmentalists, who want both candidates to address the issue of climate change. They’ve pushed to have a climate question included in Wednesday’s debate, so be on the lookout for whether that effort succeeds.
Even with Congress away to campaign, Washington is still playing host to plenty of energy events this week.
Nuclear energy industry representatives will discuss roadblocks to exporting nuclear power during an event on Monday at the National Press Club. Officials from the Nuclear Energy Institute, the National Association of Manufacturers and Exelon Generation will be on hand to speak.
On Wednesday, the Center for Strategic and International Studies and the National Petroleum Council (NPC) will team up for a conversation on the future of transportation fuels and vehicle technology. The gathering will dive into an NPC report on vehicle and fuel technologies that Energy Secretary Steven Chu commissioned.
Also Wednesday, the Alliance to Save Energy is holding its annual awards dinner at the Mellon Auditorium. That same day, the group will hold a separate energy efficiency event at the Dirksen Senate Office Building.
Gary Guzy, deputy director of the White House Council on Environmental Quality, and Roland Risser, building technologies program manager with the Department of Energy, will headline the event.
One of the nation’s premiere electric utility and technology conventions, GridWeek, will convene Tuesday through Thursday at the Washington Convention Center. The event focuses on policy, regulation, innovation and “smart grid” technologies designed to reduce energy consumption through Internet-based communication technology.
Carlos Pascual, special envoy and coordinator for international energy affairs with the State Department, and Matthew McGuire, director of the office of business liaison with the Commerce Department, will deliver keynote remarks.
