Biden to Louisiana, Florida on Tuesday
Vice President Joe Biden will travel to Louisiana and Florida on Tuesday to survey the impact of the Gulf of Mexico oil spill.
Biden will meet with state and federal officials in New Orleans and in Pensacola, Fla. in part of the Obama administration's ongoing effort to respond to the spill, which has flowed into Gulf waters for more than two months.
The vice president will travel to the unified command center in New Orleans in the morning to meet with Adm. Thad Allen, Navy Secretary Ray Mabus, NOAA Administrator Jane Lubchenco and Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal (R) before traveling to a seafood restaurant around lunchtime.
Biden will travel to Pensacola with Allen and Lubchenco in the afternoon, where he'll meet up with Florida Gov. Charlie Crist (I) and make a statement to the press.
President Barack Obama has traveled to the Gulf four times. Biden's visit is meant to help demonstrate a continuing presence by the administration in the region, particularly in New Orleans and Pensacola, two areas hardest hit by the impact of the spill.
