Report: Hayward to be replaced at BP
BP CEO Tony Hayward will be replaced Monday by Robert Dudley, the overseer of the Gulf oil spill cleanup, Britain’s Guardian newspaper reported Sunday.
Hayward has raised ire in the United States since the explosion at the Deepwater Horizon rig and ensuing gusher. The CEO said “I would like my life back” while complaining about the disruption caused by the deadly rig explosion and environmental disaster. He later apologized, but then spent a weekend competing in a yachting race, prompting Sen. Richard Shelby (R-Ala.) to slam Hayward for showing “the height of arrogance.”
Hayward’s predecessor, Lord Browne, similarly left after a disaster in the United States: the 2005 Texas City refinery explosion and fire.
The Guardian reported that the change in leadership will be announced alongside the oil giant’s half-year results on the stock exchange Monday.
Dudley was assigned to oversee the Gulf spill efforts on June 18. A New York native, he had previously run BP operations in Russia.
