News bites: Tokyo Electric Power 'scraps' four reactors, BP employee loses laptop with claims data, and more

By Andrew Restuccia - 03/30/11 08:59 AM ET

The public is losing confidence in Japanese officials amid the nuclear crisis in the country.

Meanwhile, Tokyo Electric Power has decided to “scrap” four reactors at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant in Japan.

Radiation levels in seawater near the plant were 3,335 times the normal level.

A BP employee lost a laptop with oil-spill claims data from thousands of people on it.

Rolling back plans to expand nuclear power will have a major effect on efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, a top International Energy Agency official said.

A book on the oil spill by a Washington Post reporter is being released next week.
