Obama to tout energy plan in Philadelphia next week
President Obama will hold a town-hall meeting in Philadelphia next week on his plan to reduce the country’s oil imports by one-third by 2025.
The April 6 town-hall will be his third energy-related public event in a week, the latest indication that the issue will top the president’s domestic agenda in the coming months.
A senior administration official told reporters earlier this week that a major speech Wednesday in which Obama outlined his oil imports reduction goal marked a “transition in public communications” from foreign policy issues, such as Libya, to energy security.
Obama will hold the town-hall meeting at Gamesa Technology Corporation, which manufactures wind turbines.
The president announced a new initiative Friday in which U.S. companies can receive federal support for transitioning vehicle fleets to cleaner energy sources.
