As shutdown looms, Obama cancels trip to Indianapolis
Amid ongoing negotiations intended to avert a government shutdown, President Obama has postponed a trip to Indianapolis to tout his plan to cut oil imports by one-third by 2025.
Obama was slated to visit Allison Transmission, a hybrid vehicle technology manufacturer.
"Allison Transmission is a leader in hybrid technology and the world’s largest manufacturer of fully automatic transmissions for medium- and heavy-duty commercial vehicles, tactical military vehicles and hybrid-propulsion systems," the White House said.
It would have been Obama's third trip to promote his energy agenda in recent weeks. He went to a wind turbine manufacturer outside Philadelphia earlier this week and a UPS facility in Landover, Md., last week.
Promoting vehicles that use less oil, like hybrids and electric vehicles, is at the top of Obama's energy agenda.
