News bites: Anadarko to settle some oil spill claims, major pipeline spill in Canada, and more

By Andrew Restuccia - 05/04/11 08:56 AM ET

Officials said an oil pipeline spill in Alberta is significantly bigger than a similar spill that took place in Michigan last year.

Anadarko says it might settle certain claims from last year’s massive Gulf oil spill.

The Maryland attorney general is planning to sue Chesapeake Energy, the company that owns a natural-gas well that exploded last month, spewing fracking fluid into a Pennsylvania waterway.

Chevron is expanding its natural gas operations in the Marcellus Shale.

The New York Times
examines efforts to prevent major flooding along the Mississippi River.
