Critics of EPA climate regulations monopolize TV news, report says

Media Matters says Fox News, Fox Business and CNBC featured four times the number of opponents as supporters of EPA climate rules between December 2009 and April 2011. MSNBC, for its part, hosted four times more supporters than critics.

CNN, NBC, ABC and CBS often just delivered straight news without guests offering opinions, Media Matters says.

Lastly, Media Matters found that Republicans appeared on cable news channels to blast the EPA rules six times as often as Democrats did.

The Media Matters report comes as House Republicans passed legislation earlier this year to block EPA’s climate rules; that same bill did not receive enough support to pass the Senate.

Supporters of climate regulations say the rules are essential for preventing harmful greenhouse gas emissions from entering the atmosphere in massive quantities.

A majority of scientists say the climate is changing in large part because of human activity.
