Boehner says changes are coming for ethanol
House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) said Tuesday that “changes are on their way” to the ethanol subsidy program but he declined to weigh in on a bill to scrap the tax credit before it expires at the end of the year.
The Senate is due to vote later Tuesday on an amendment by Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) to eliminate the ethanol subsidy.
“Clearly there’s a big debate here on Capitol Hill about what to do with ethanol, and I think that the ethanol credit is due to expire at the end of the year,” Boehner said when asked about Coburn’s bill at a press conference. “There are some members who want to take action earlier. We’re going to consider the views of all of our members, but clearly changes are on their way.”
