White House cancels Virginia event on truck efficiency standards
President Obama canceled his planned trip to Virginia later Tuesday to unveil first-ever fuel efficiency standards for heavy-duty trucks.
The scheduled 11 a.m. announcement at Interstate Moving Services in Springfield, Va., was replaced by a closed-press meeting at 10:35 a.m. with industry officials to discuss the standards.
A White House aide told The Hill that the truck efficiency standards will still be released Tuesday.
The White House sent the following update to reporters Tuesday morning:
“The president will no longer travel to Interstate Moving Services today. This morning, the president will meet with industry officials at the White House to discuss the first-of-their-kind fuel efficiency standards for work trucks, buses and other heavy-duty vehicles. This meeting is closed press.”
The White House also canceled Tuesday's press briefing.
Senior administration officials briefed reporters on the standards Monday. You can read more about them here.
The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the reason for canceling the announcement.
