Huntsman launches fresh attack on Perry’s stance on climate change
GOP White House hopeful Jon Huntsman is reviving his criticism of Rick Perry’s rejection of mainstream climate science.
Here’s former Utah Gov. Huntsman, in an interview with Bloomberg TV, discussing which candidates are anti-science:
“I’m not going to get into the name game. But suffice it to say if you’re going to run from climate science, if you’re going to run from other mainstream scientific principles, evolution among them, I think you’re suggesting to a whole lot of people out there that you’re out of the mainstream … Rick [Perry] has been outspoken in that regard. I think on science he’s out of the mainstream.”
The overwhelming view among scientists is that the planet is warming and that human activities are a major cause.
Perry, the Texas governor, in August alleged that climate scientists are manipulating data for financial gain. He has called evolution “a theory that’s out there.”
Huntsman’s comments came in a wide-ranging interview on Bloomberg TV’s “Political Capital with Al Hunt” airing this weekend.
The Hill’s Daniel Strauss has more here on Huntsman, who is trying to position himself as a centrist alternative with mainstream appeal.
