Pope steps down as head of Sierra Club
Carl Pope, a longtime fixture of the American environmental movement, has stepped down as the chairman of the Sierra Club.
Pope, who has been a part of the Sierra Club for 40 years, will continue to serve as an adviser to the green group.
Michael Brune, who replaced Pope as executive director in April of 2010, will remain in that position.
Pope said he will now focus his attention on developing “a revitalized, innovative and sustainable American manufacturing sector.”
“Businesses, clean tech innovators, labor unions, environmentalists and state and local governments all understand that if we are going to develop a sustainable economy, if we are going to regain our economic dynamism, we must bring back manufacturing,” Pope said in a statement.
