News bites: Nuke industry looks to Southern Co.

Reuters says the fate of the U.S. nuclear industry is dependent on Southern Co., which just received federal approval to build the first new reactors in more than 30 years.

A conservation group took aim at a new climate change initiative launched by the Obama administration for not including carbon dioxide emissions, The Huffington Post reports.

Chrysler withdrew its application for an Energy Department loan, Bloomberg reports.

The Associated Press reports: “A blowout at an exploratory well near the coast of the Beaufort Sea underscores the threat to the pristine Arctic Ocean environment if offshore drilling is allowed by the Obama administration, environmental groups said Thursday.”
