Gas group taps former Senate aide for lobbying role
The American Gas Association (AGA) has tapped George Lowe, a former aide to Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) and the late Sen. Ted Stevens (R-Alaska), for a senior lobbying position.
Lowe will be vice president of federal affairs for the group, which represents natural-gas utilities.
“As our national political leaders examine the changing energy landscape, George will help lead our advocacy work to keep them informed about the benefits of clean natural gas for our nation. We are excited to have him on our team,” said AGA President and CEO Dave McCurdy in a statement.
Lowe has managed the consulting firm Lowe Strategies LLC since 2009.
He spent 11 years working for Stevens, including service as his chief of staff from 2005 to 2009, and was also legislative director and chief counsel. He also served as chief of staff for Murkowski in 2004, according to AGA.
“George’s extensive experience on Capitol Hill will be an asset to AGA and our membership,” McCurdy said.
Lowe’s arriving as lawmakers and federal policymakers are tackling a suite of issues that affect AGA, a group that represents companies that supply gas to residential, industrial and commercial consumers.
They include pipeline safety, energy efficiency, low-income home heating assistance, natural gas-powered vehicles, rules for trading in energy derivatives and others.
