News bites: Romney’s green energy record faces scrutiny, and more

By Ben Geman - 06/15/12 08:37 AM ET

The Wall Street Journal explores Mitt Romney’s green energy record as governor of Massachusetts in light of his current attacks against the White House over Solyndra.

Reuters analyzes the shortcomings of Europe’s greenhouse gas trading system.

“Europe's emissions trading scheme has failed to create incentives for utilities to use cleaner energy fuels, meaning that governments will have to switch to simpler tools, such as subsidies and regulation, to enforce emissions reduction targets,” the news service states.

Bloomberg looks at Ford Motor Co.’s pledge to reduce energy use in its factories.

The Associated Press reports that Australia has created the world's largest network of marine reserves.

AP also reports, “Cheaper gas has yet to cause consumers to spend enough on other goods to boost the slumping economy.”
