News bites: EPA rebuffs bid for wider climate rules

By Ben Geman - 06/19/12 07:30 AM ET

Bloomberg reports that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is rebuffing green groups that want an expansion of the scope of greenhouse gas regulations.

From its piece:

The Environmental Protection Agency turned down a demand from U.S. environmental groups that it curb greenhouse-gas emissions from aircraft, ships or off-highway vehicles such as trucks used in mining operations.

The agency sent a court-ordered response today to the Center for Biological Diversity and other groups, saying that it wouldn’t issue regulations for those sources of carbon dioxide anytime soon.

The Houston Chronicle has the latest on the legal battle over the 2010 BP oil spill.

The Associated Press reports on federal approval of a natural-gas drilling project in Utah.

The Washington Post looks at efforts by the world’s largest cities to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
