Sen. Boxer proposes naming EPA building after ex-President Clinton
Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) on Monday offered legislation that would rename the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) headquarters as the William Jefferson Clinton Federal Building.
"Naming the EPA building after President Bill Clinton is a fitting tribute to his leadership and his many accomplishments," Boxer said Tuesday. "His record as President was one of job creation and balanced budgets, and his work through his Administration and the Clinton Global Initiative to create a cleaner environment has been exemplary."
Boxer's bill, S. 3304, also gives a nod to the two previous Republican presidents, although it would make them share a building with each other and a former Democratic congressman. It would rename the U.S. courthouse in Midland, Texas, the "George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush United States Courthouse and George Mahon Federal Building."
George Mahon was a 22-term Democrat who represented Midland, retiring in 1978.
Boxer's bill would also rename the federal building that houses the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives as the Eliot Ness ATF Building.
