Gas prices rise for first time in weeks

By Zack Colman - 07/09/12 04:34 PM ET

The national average for regular unleaded fuel rose 5.6 cents this week to $3.382 per gallon, AAA said Monday.

Gas prices in much of the U.S. had declined for 13 straight weeks before Monday’s AAA Fuel Gauge Report announcement.

Overall, gas prices have still declined compared with the previous month, when regular unleaded fuel hit $3.547 per gallon.

But coupled with a lackluster jobs report released Friday and Republican insistence that Obama administration energy policies have kept gas prices high, the increase will likely serve as a lightning rod for lawmakers.
