News bites: IRS slams Solyndra bankruptcy plan

The IRS and Energy Department, in court filings, objected to failed solar panel maker Solyndra’s bankruptcy plan, Bloomberg reports. The IRS said the bankruptcy plan for the firm, which got a $535 million federal loan guarantee from an Energy stimulus program, was designed to ensure its private backers still receive tax breaks in the future.

Weekly domestic oil production hit a 17-year high in the week that ended Oct. 5, Reuters says, citing U.S. Energy Information Administration statistics.

Vestas Wind Systems, the world’s largest wind turbine manufacturer, cut 200 more Colorado jobs on Thursday, notes The Denver Post. Vestas has had several rounds of Colorado layoffs. It has pinned the losses on the uncertainty surrounding a crucial incentive for wind power production, which expires Dec. 31.

Mexico plans to spend about $242 million on developing unconventional drilling techniques to tap into natural gas and oil reserves, according to Fox News.

The Environmental Protection Agency will soon decide whether to waive a rule that requires refiners to blend corn ethanol fuel into traditional transportation fuel, notes The Detroit News.
