News bites: Romney’s push to roll back regs, coal ash protections delayed, and more

By Ben Geman - 10/15/12 07:12 AM ET

National Public Radio reports on Mitt Romney’s vow to roll back environmental regulations.

The Washington Post reports on delayed federal efforts to clean up coal ash, which is power plant waste that contains toxic elements.

The Houston Chronicle reports that natural-gas producers have agreed to support a major study of methane leakage from gas development. The extent to which methane — a potent greenhouse gas — is escaping from development sites has been a source of debate.

The Associated Press reports that Germany’s tax on household power bills, which finances green energy growth, will soar “as the country pushes ahead with phasing out nuclear power within a decade.”
