News bites: Lower prices hit Big Oil’s earnings

By Ben Geman - 11/01/12 06:20 AM ET

MarketWatch reports that Exxon is expected to report a drop in third-quarter profits on Thursday.

The Associated Press reports that Royal Dutch Shell’s core earnings fell in the third quarter amid lower oil and gas prices. Net profits rose slightly.

Reuters reports that Canadian regulators are conducting a “wide audit” of TransCanada Corp., the pipeline company that supplies substantial amounts of Canadian oil to U.S. markets.

Bloomberg reports that the U.S. natural-gas boom is “creating a bonanza for pipeline operators, spurring the biggest increase in exports to Mexico and Canada since the 1970s.”

The Huffington Post reports that MSNBC political analyst Chuck Todd — a familiar face during election season — sees climate change behind Hurricane Sandy.
