Sandy thrusts climate change into close Mass. Senate race
Hurricane Sandy has pushed climate change and federal disaster-relief policy into prominent roles in the close Massachusetts Senate race.
The Boston Globe reports that Sen. Scott Brown (R-Mass.) and Democratic challenger Elizabeth Warren sparred over the topics on the stump Wednesday.
Here’s a blurb from its story Thursday:
After touring a seawall at Long Beach in Plymouth battered during the hurricane, Brown said, “I’ll leave that up to the scientists, as to where we stand” on the relationship between climate change and violent weather.
“But I believe in climate change,” said Brown, who had expressed uncertainty on the issue during his 2010 campaign. “I believe man and nature play a role. It’s a question of how do we step back and try to address it. I recycle all the time ... ’’
Warren pointed out that if Republicans win control of the Senate, it would put Sen. James Inhofe (R-Okla.), who calls global warming a hoax, at the helm of the Environment and Public Works Committee.
