OVERNIGHT ENERGY: Wind tax credits in focus, Al Gore’s ‘Dirty Weather Report’ going live, and more
STATE OF PLAY: Al Gore is launchin a 24-hour online and social media-fueled event Wednesday night to show links between climate change and the effects of recent extreme weather worldwide.
This year’s version of the “24 Hours of Reality” event begins at 8 p.m. and bears the subtitle: “The Dirty Weather Report.” The Hill has more about it here.
The live-streamed online event is slated to provide content from nations all over the world, and will encourage participation through social media sites, including Twitter, according to The Climate Reality Project, the former vice president’s climate advocacy group.

The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) is urging President Obama to veto the bill, which has already cleared the Senate and has bipartisan support.
“We call on President Obama to veto this misguided bill and firmly establish his credibility on climate change and protecting the environment at the outset of his second term. This is his first opportunity to take real action on climate change in the next four years, and we hope he makes the right choice,” Keya Chatterjee, director of international climate policy with WWF, said in a Tuesday statement.

Wind tax credit battle rages
The Hill is hosting an event Wednesday morning about the future of the soon-to-expire wind energy production tax credit.
The credit’s fate is shaping up as a major battle in the lame-duck session. It will be livestreamed at thehill.com at 8:30 a.m.
Speakers include Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.), an outspoken critic of the incentive.
Report to detail threats to power grid
The National Research Council will unveil a study Wednesday on threats to the U.S. power grid from natural disasters and terror attacks.
“Terrorism and the Electric Power Delivery System, a National Research Council report recently approved for public release by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security after a five-year delay, considers the vulnerabilities of the U.S. electric power grid system as well as the possible economic and social consequences of a major natural disaster or well-planned attack,” an advisory states.
“It also recommends ways to make the system less vulnerable, rapidly restore power if failure occurs, and sustain important services while the power is out,” the research body said.
