By Ben Geman and Zack Colman - 11/13/12 06:01 PM ET

STATE OF PLAY: Al Gore is launchin a 24-hour online and social media-fueled event Wednesday night to show links between climate change and the effects of recent extreme weather worldwide.

This year’s version of the “24 Hours of Reality” event begins at 8 p.m. and bears the subtitle: “The Dirty Weather Report.” The Hill has more about it here.

The live-streamed online event is slated to provide content from nations all over the world, and will encourage participation through social media sites, including Twitter, according to The Climate Reality Project, the former vice president’s climate advocacy group.

COMING LATER TUESDAY:

House could vote on shielding airlines from greenhouse gas rule ...

The House could vote as soon as Tuesday evening on legislation that would protect U.S. airlines from paying carbon emissions fees the European Union is imposing.

The EU recently announced it’s suspending application of the rules, but lawmakers are pressing ahead to exempt U.S. carriers. Click here for more.

... as green group pushes for White House veto

The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) is urging President Obama to veto the bill, which has already cleared the Senate and has bipartisan support.

WWF said Obama’s decision would send a signal about where he stands on climate change heading into his second term.

“We call on President Obama to veto this misguided bill and firmly establish his credibility on climate change and protecting the environment at the outset of his second term. This is his first opportunity to take real action on climate change in the next four years, and we hope he makes the right choice,” Keya Chatterjee, director of international climate policy with WWF, said in a Tuesday statement.
