News bites: Coastal communities gear up for more frequent storms

Reuters takes a look at how some cities are boosting coastal defenses to manage storms.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration says the cost of transporting coal rose 50 percent in the past 10 years, notes EnergyBiz.

A group of more than 130 scientists from Iowa colleges and universities fingered climate change for this year’s drought, The Associated Press reports.

The State University of New York at Buffalo is shuttering its natural gas industry-backed hydraulic fracturing institute, Bloomberg reports.
