Top Energy Department official stays mum on future leadership

By Ben Geman - 11/27/12 12:35 PM ET

The No. Two official at the Energy Department was tight-lipped Tuesday about whether there's a major shake-up looming atop the agency.

“I am not going to speculate about the future,” Deputy Secretary Daniel Poneman told reporters when asked about his future at the agency.

Poneman offered a similar answer when asked about Energy Secretary Steven Chu, whom many believe is unlikely to stick around for President Obama’s second term.

Poneman spoke to reporters on the sidelines of an event with top International Energy Agency officials at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.
