News bites: Court tosses challenge against White House for deepwater drilling freeze

A U.S. appeals court threw out a contempt citation against the Obama administration for imposing a deepwater drilling freeze in the Gulf of Mexico after the 2010 BP oil spill, Bloomberg reports.

Global goals for reducing greenhouse gas emissions are getting out of reach as nations negotiate how to meet global warming targets, Reuters notes.

A bipartisan group of lawmakers urged Congress to extend a wind energy incentive that they say will preserve thousands of jobs, The Associated Press reports.

France is starting to cool on nuclear power, according to Reuters.

The United Nations' World Meteorological Organization said that a slate of Arctic sea ice larger than the United States that melted this year illustrates the challenges climate change poses, The Associated Press notes.
