News bites: UN fund might use climate donations to encourage carbon price

By Zack Colman - 12/07/12 09:18 AM ET

The United Nations Green Climate Fund might use the $100 billion it donates annually to developing nations as leverage to get those countries to put a price on carbon, according to Bloomberg.

A drop in German demand is pushing weekly oil prices downward for the first time in five weeks, Bloomberg notes.

Enbridge will spend $6.2 billion to expand a pipeline in North Dakota and western Canada to help ship more oil from the Bakken region, The Associated Press reports.

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg said the city will rebuild post-Hurricane Sandy with climate change in mind, CNN reports.

Drought has Heartland states competing for water, with some pushing for a release of upstream Missouri River reservoirs into the parched Mississippi River, notes The Associated Press.
