News bites: Senate GOP seeks smaller Hurricane Sandy aid package

Senate Republicans are pushing for a $23.8 billion aid package for Hurricane Sandy, rather than the $60.4 billion Democrats seek, according to Reuters.

China is forcing consolidation of its solar firms to curb overproduction and related price undercutting, The Associated Press reports.

Despite sanctions from the West, Iran is still finding ways to export its fuel, Reuters notes.

Hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, has created 38,000 direct or indirect jobs in Michigan this year, The Detroit News reports, citing a study by IHS Global Insight.
