House GOP aide heads to oil industry group

By Ben Geman - 01/02/13 06:37 PM ET

Brian Straessle, a senior aide with the conservative House Republican Study Committee (RSC), is leaving Capitol Hill to join the media team at the American Petroleum Institute.

He announced his departure “after five memorable years” and the new gig at the oil industry trade group in an email Wednesday

“It’s been an enormous privilege to work with the members and staff here at the Republican Study Committee,” wrote Straessle, who was the RSC's communications director. He begins the new job Thursday, according to the email.

The current RSC chairman, Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), is stepping down after two years heading the group of more than 160 House GOP lawmakers.

Rep. Steve Scalise (R-La.) is the incoming chairman of the group.
