News bites: Gregoire for EPA chief? Plus, the latest on Shell’s stranded rig, and more

The Seattle Post-Intelligencer reports that President Obama might nominate outgoing Washington state Gov. Christine Gregoire (D) to run the Environmental Protection Agency.

NBC, meanwhile, puts her on the list of possible nominees for Interior Department chief if current Secretary Ken Salazar steps down.

The Associated Press has the latest on efforts to salvage Shell’s big offshore drilling rig that ran aground in Alaska.

Bloomberg reports that Exxon and partners plan to spend $14 billion to develop an oil field off the Canadian coast.

The New York Times reports from upstate on the battle over whether to allow natural-gas “fracking” in the region.
