News bites: Lifeboats for Shell's Alaska drilling rig might have leaked fuel

The U.S. Coast Guard said lifeboats on Shell’s grounded Kulluk drilling rig might have leaked as much as 272 gallons of diesel fuel into the Gulf of Alaska, the Los Angeles Times reports.

The U.S. Geological Survey found no water contamination from hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, in 127 test wells in two Arkansas counties, Reuters reports.

Payments to people and businesses who claim BP’s 2010 Gulf of Mexico oil spill cost them money have topped $1 billion in the firm’s class-action settlement, The Associated Press reports.

Google is investing $200 million in a west Texas wind farm as part of its $1 billion renewable energy portfolio, the Houston Chronicle notes.

Turkey has edged out Norway as Europe’s biggest oil-and-gas driller, according to Bloomberg.
