News bites: India defends solar program against US complaint

In response to a complaint levied against it by the United States, India said its solar power program follows World Trade Organization rules, The Wall Street Journal reports.

Bloomberg reports that U.S. regulators halted offshore drilling in the Gulf of Mexico because of faulty bolts in some safety equipment.

A new report that includes Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va.) as one of its co-authors says energy efficiency could slash $169 billion annually from U.S. businesses' energy bills by 2030, Bloomberg reports.

French utility GDF Suez plans to build and operate Africa's largest wind farm in Morocco, according to Reuters.

A study shows the U.S. is falling behind on targets for cutting greenhouse gas emissions by 2020, The Washington Post reports.
