News bites: Senate Dems float bill to end oil-and-gas incentives

By Zack Colman - 02/14/13 09:13 AM ET

Senate Democrats introduced a bill Wednesday that would end billions of dollars worth of tax incentives for the oil-and-gas industry, Reuters reports.

Hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, in the United States has boosted oil-and-gas production and lessened the OPEC oil cartel's influence, notes Bloomberg.

The Associated Press reports that the North Dakota Senate rejected a bill that would have tightened rules on natural-gas flaring, a process in which oil companies burn off excess natural gas produced at wells.

Companies see potential for offshore wind off Virginia's shores, according to the Houston Chronicle.
