News bites: Alaska oil plan finalized, Chu heads back to Stanford, and more

The Associated Press reports on the completion of Interior Department plans for managing oil-and-gas drilling in a huge swath of Alaska.
“A new management plan for the vast National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska splits the Indiana-size area roughly in half between conservation areas and land available for petroleum development, and allows pipelines carrying oil or gas to be constructed through the federal reserve,” AP reports.
Reuters reports that Alaskan state regulators are proposing new regulations for hydraulic fracturing.
Outgoing Energy Secretary Steven Chu will return to Stanford University, where the physicist was previously a professor.
“Upon his return, Chu will be the William R. Kenan Jr., Professor of Humanities and Sciences, holding a joint appointment in the Department of Physics and the School of Medicine’s Department of Molecular and Cellular Physiology,” The Stanford Daily reports.
The Wall Street Journal reports on oil-and-gas companies’ interest in Brazil.
