News bites: BP trial update, paper bolsters CO2's role in warming, and more

By Ben Geman - 03/01/13 08:10 AM ET

Reuters reports on Thursday’s action at BP’s trial for the 2010 Gulf of Mexico oil spill.
The Associated Press reports that 15 people were charged Thursday with felony fraud for “allegedly filing bogus claims for help” after the 2010 spill.

The Charlotte Observer reports on the latest development in utility giant Duke Energy’s support for last summer’s Democratic National Convention.

“Duke Energy won’t be repaid the $10 million line of credit it guaranteed for Charlotte to host last year’s Democratic National Convention, the company confirmed Thursday,” the paper reports.

The Wall Street Journal checks in on political battles over natural gas exports.

The New York Times reports on new research that further solidifies the link between carbon dioxide emissions and global warming.

“A meticulous new analysis of Antarctic ice suggests that the sharp warming that ended the last ice age occurred in lock step with increases of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, the latest of many indications that the gas is a powerful influence on the earth’s climate,” the paper reports.
