IPCC head vows probe of hacked climate emails

By Ben Geman - 12/04/09 07:42 AM ET

The U.N.'s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change will probe emails among climate scientists hacked from a U.K. research institute, according to chairman Rajendra Pachauri.

"We certainly will go into the whole lot and then . . . we will take a position on it," he told the BBC.

"We certainly don't want to brush anything under the carpet," he added. "This is a serious issue and we certainly will look into it in detail." His comments can be heard on the first audio segment on this page. The University of East Anglia that houses the Climatic Research Unit has launched its own inquiry.
