Palin says Obama should boycott Copenhagen over hacked e-mails

By Ben Geman - 12/04/09 01:30 PM ET

Sarah Palin says President Barack Obama should reverse plans to attend the Copenhagen climate summit in light of hacked e-mails among climate scientists recently made public.

Climate skeptics say the messages — hacked from the Climatic Research Unit at the University of East Anglia in the U.K. — reveal attempts to manipulate data and squelch dissenting views.

Palin, on her Facebook page last night, attacked what she called "junk science and doomsday scare tactics pushed by an environmental priesthood that capitalizes on the public's worry and makes them feel that owning an SUV is a 'sin' against the planet."

But Obama administration scientists and other advocates of tough emissions curbs say the messages are being taken out of context, and do nothing to dent powerful evidence that dangerous human-induced warming is occurring.
