LG loses DoE seal of approval

By Jim Snyder - 12/07/09 04:37 PM ET

Some refrigerators made by LG are losing the Energy Department seal of approval.

DoE announced on Monday that LG French door refrigerator-freezers are banned from using the Energy Star label which identifies energy efficiency appliances starting on Jan. 2.

The department said it was proceeding after “multiple independent labs” found the doors don’t qualify for the program. Its action is part of an Energy Star crackdown against energy hogs that advertise as energy savers.

LG is now suing the department, DoE said in a statement. Here is a statement from the company.
