President Obama will seek traction Tuesday for his plan to provide rebates for consumers who retrofit their homes to increase efficiency.
Obama floated the idea during a speech on jobs and the economy last week. On Tuesday he will meet with representatives from unions, manufacturers and small businesses to discuss the issue, the White House said.
The White House and energy efficiency advocates on Capitol Hill have already backed the notion that overhauling homes and buildings to increase efficiency is a way to create jobs, slow emissions and save consumer dollars.
The stimulus law enacted early this year contained several efficiency measures, including $5 billion funneled through the Energy Department for low-income home weatherization assistance, and $5.5 billion for the General Services Administration to make new and existing federal buildings “green” and efficient.
