Sarkozy after heads of state meeting: No climate deal yet

By Ben Geman - 12/18/09 07:12 AM ET

French President Nicolas Sarkozy, emerging from a big, unannounced heads of state meeting in Copenhagen Friday morning, said there’s still no deal as the climate summit nears its final hours, Reuters reports.

Sarkozy said Chinese resistance to emissions monitoring remains a sticking point, according to the Reuters account. Ensuring some kind of outside verification of pledged emissions curbs by China and other large emitters is a major priority for the U.S. A senior Obama administration official reported progress on this front Thursday.
