SEIA’s Stanton departs for SolarCity

By Ben Geman - 02/22/10 03:08 PM ET

John Stanton has left his post as a top lobbyist and attorney for the Solar Energy Industries Association and will begin a job in March as vice president of government affairs at SolarCity.

SolarCity is a California-based company that provides solar system design, financing, installation and other services. Stanton, who will work out of their Washington, DC office, had been with SEIA for over three years.

Before that he worked for the National Environmental Trust and as legislative counsel at EPA.

“SolarCity revolutionized solar financing and has become the standard by which solar service providers are measured,” he said in a prepared statement this month.

“SolarCity’s growth is instructive in light of America’s need to create companies that can simultaneously deliver value and savings to customers, help protect the environment, create new jobs and deliver strong returns to investors. This company has only scratched the surface of what it can ultimately accomplish, and I’m excited to be part of it,” Stanton added.

The company’s customers include homeowners, corporations, and government agencies including the General Services Administration and Department of Homeland Security.
